What to wear for Family photos. Matching family outfits??
Whilst I totally believe in wearing something that you feel amazing in, are comfortable in and that reflects your personality, I also realise that having your family in front of a camera can be daunting and overwhelming. Working out what to dress your family in can be a task that goes in the “too hard basket,” either because you don’t have time, or it is just one more thing that you have to do. So I have scanned pinterest for some ideas for you. These are just suggestions of some colour schemes that work well together. But feel completely free to add your own touch.
Some tips include….
Choose complementary colours that look natural together, instead of “matching,” outfits.
Avoid BIG/bright distracting patterns and logos. Note- picking a lovely floral pattern for mum’s or daughter’s dress is a gorgeous idea. Then you can try and pick out say a sage green/pastel pink from the pattern for another family member’s dress/skirt.
Mix things up a bit, instead of having everyone in denim jeans, have girl’s in a skirt, boys in shorts, mum in a long, flowy dress etc
Neutral colours are beautiful and allow your personalities to stand out, but try to choose a cream/beige instead of pure white. From my experience, white can throw some weird colour tints and if you have a cool skin tone, can be too stark. Aim for warmer versions.
Consider your personal preference, favourite colours, kind of makeup you wear and skin tone i.e. warm or cool…
Start with mum or daughter and work from there. As I said above, pick a beautiful dress and use some of the colours from there.
Lay them out together and see if it works.
If all else fails, go for comfort, ease, practicality and SOMETHING YOU LOVE!
