Why I love words. A childhood calling reignited.

Words come naturally to me. They feel safe. They feel cozy and they spark the same emotions in me as coming home to a space of warmth and belonging.

When I write, I become fully immersed in the experience. Think of what it would feel like to be lowered toes first into the most delicious, luxurious bath of soul-delighting, almost orgasmic bubbliness. Melting into it, like a chocolate Tim- Tam dipped in your swirling, milky coffee.

Aah..Ecstasy….

Writing is an entire experience, an escape, a holiday for the mind, wrapped in the package of considered paragraphs.

When I started a blog for my photography page, it was born of necessity, a requirement if you will, to get my business of the ground. It was apparently needed to improve the SEO, generate leads, get more clicks, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.

But now…

Now, I’ve realised I have something to say. I have something worth sharing and it is completely born of my passion for the way in which the written word can transform, tantalise and touch your innermost being.

It is a childhood dream reignited. A childhood dream let loose, like a puppy pulling on its lead, surging forward to freedom, having been trapped in the backyard for days on end.

I’m sure I have mentioned my favourite pastime as a child. I have distinct, vivid memories of laying in bed with pages of fresh paper and a coloured pen, letting my imagination run free, pouring its wildest thoughts onto the paper with such fervour and joy. The result would be a newly formed magical journey, taking its reader from terror to triumph.

It was a real expression of my soul’s calling. An intentional and authentic expression of my truest self.

You see, I love that words can impact. My God can they impact! Skillfully written words can tap into any emotion, draw it in close, dance with it, romance it, heighten it til it pours uncontrollably from you, its reader, and then when you are emptied, place you back on the chair to await your next turn round the dance floor.

Words can excite, manipulate, compel, convince, inspire, magnetise, invite and delight. They can do it all.

As a teenager, I adored essays. Three thousand words was not a dreaded task, but an opportunity to explore, research, formulate ideas and convince the reader of my considered argument. It was me, in my element, often written last minute, the words simply flowing freely onto the page as they had done in my favourite storytelling moments.

I should have known. I could have known then, that my undeniable pull towards libraries, museums, history; my insatiable appetite to collect books, my heightened sense of the divine smell of newly opened pages and even my damn attraction to the massive library in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, would lead me full circle, right back to the wonder that is writing.

And so here I am. Having dabbled in ancient history, drenched myself in marriage and babies, purposely played in photography and now crafting copy for soul-led women in business.

And next level me, desires to creatively express, through soul-fulfilling, evocative and impactful writing. Next level me, desires to embody the woman who writes from a heart-led space; who offers soulful, true and inspired words to the world. Next level me is ready to fly.
